LaVentana Baja Windsurfing, Kiteboarding, Fishing, Scuba Diving!
The Premier Winter Wind & Water Sport Destination
La
Ventana is a small Mexican fishing village located on the Sea of Cortez
just 35 minutes from La Paz, Baja California. Discovered by windsurfers
15 years ago, La Ventana has become the perfect kitesurfing spot thanks
to its steady winds from November to March and to its L-shape sandy
beach with sideshore winds.
Other activites includes worldclass spearfishing, diving, snorkeling,
fishing, kayaking, mountain biking and more...
The village has several taco's stand, restaurants, local bars
and
small stores that sell basic food items. Different options for
accomodations are available, from camping to bungalows or house rentals.
Access from the USA is easy with Alaska Airlines and Delta Airlines
offering new non-stop flights from Los Angeles to La Paz International
Airport (LAP). Other options include flying to Los Cabos International
Airport (SJD) and take the 3h scenic drive to La Ventana.
Baja La Ventana Windsurfing & Kiteboarding Lessons & Training

In La Ventana, several operaters have Kiteschools right from the main beginner's launching area south of the campground.
The best season for the wind is November to March when the wind usually blows daily from 11:00AM to 5:00PM at 15-20 knots.
Water temperature is
around 70 degrees F during the winter, but because
of the wind, a full wetsuit (3/2 or 4/3) is generally recommended. From
March to November, a
shorty is more than enough.
Water is usually flat to little choppy with a occasional swell
breaking in front of Palapas Ventana, La Camaronera reef or La Bufadora
reef.
Launching Areas: There are 3 main launching areas

Sea Of Cortez Nature Preserves - Birds, Fish, Whale & Dolphin Watching
The Sea of Cortez is home to one-third of the world's whale and dolphin species over 500 species of fish, the islands provide habitat for more than 200 bird species and host breeding colonies of sea lions and turtles. The area is especially rich with rare cactus, plants and wildlife including the black tailed jack rabbit, which only lives here.
Cerralvo Island lies about 9 miles off our shore, the island combined with the steep mountains behind La Ventana/El Sargento creates a natural wind tunnel making La Ventana Bay one of the premier winter wind water sport locations in world!
Downwinderinn is located in El Sargento, which is next to La Ventana, both of which are located on the Bay of La Ventana, in the Sea of Cortez. Together the two towns span about 5 miles, so rental gear, restaurants, markets, etc are always nearby. The primary industry is fishing. The fisherman set out in their boats each morning against a sunrise backdrop. The primary language of the village is Spanish, but the locals are used to dealing with travelers.
The two locations swell to 300-500 travelers during the windy winter months to play in the beautiful warm waters and take advantage of the predictable wind. There are about 8 markets, 9 restaurants, 1 bar, 2 building supply stores, 2 Laundromats, a tortillaria and a water purification facility, and a local gas station.
